# Dashboard

> Your home screen showing key numbers, favorites, quick links, and recent bills.

<Tip>Need help in this area? See [Get Started FAQ](/docs/platform/getting-started-faq).</Tip>

Open [**Home**](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/) in the sidebar (page title **Dashboard**) when you log into Nectar. Think of it as your morning briefing for the **selected company** — a quick snapshot of counts, saved analytics views, shortcuts, and the latest bills.

If you manage utility data for multiple buildings or clients, switch companies in the sidebar to see each client’s Home. Home does not roll up every company into one total.

## What you see when you log in

When the selected company has sites and bills, Home is organized into four sections from top to bottom: **stats**, **Favorites**, **Quick Links**, and **Recent Bills**.

If the company has no sites yet, Home shows a setup empty state. If sites exist but no bills have landed, you see the stats (with zeros where appropriate) plus welcome CTAs to create connections or upload bills.

If your display name still looks like an email address, Home may prompt you to set a name in personal settings — that is a profile setup tip, not a data problem.

## Stats overview

At the top of the dashboard, you'll see summary cards that give you the big picture at a glance for the selected company:

| Card | What it tells you |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Bills Processed** | How many utility bills Nectar has processed for this company. The number grows as historical and ongoing bills land. Click → [Data Inventory > Bills](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/data-inventory/bills). |
| **Sites Tracked** | How many physical locations you're tracking — buildings, warehouses, offices, and so on. Click → [Sites](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/sites). |
| **Meters Configured** | How many meters are being tracked across your sites. A single building might have separate meters for electricity, natural gas, and water — so this number is often two or three times your site count. Click → [Data Inventory > Meters](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/data-inventory/meters). |
| **Active Connections** | How many connections are collecting data for you (online accounts, email, and integrations). One connection can cover multiple accounts and meters at the same utility provider. Click → [Data Input > Connections](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/data-input/connections). |

Each card jumps to its own list — not every card goes to Data Inventory.

## Favorites and Quick Links

After the stats, Home shows a two-column row:

* **Favorites** — your saved analytics views. Save a filter selection from any analytics page with **Save view**; open or delete views from this card (use **Manage** to remove ones you no longer need). Custom dashboards under Analytics are a different product.
* **Quick Links** — shortcuts to common areas:
  * **Analytics** — consumption charts
  * **Data Inventory** — bills list
  * **Upload Data** — uploads
  * **Data Quality** — completeness

These shortcuts save you a few clicks when you already know what you need to do. Think of them as the "express lane."

Open issues and connection problems live under [**Data Quality > Issues**](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/data-quality/issues), not on Home.

## Recent bills

The bottom of the dashboard shows **Recent Bills** — the latest utility bills for the selected company (newest bill date first). For each bill, you can see:

* **Bill Date** — when the bill was dated
* **Service Period** — the billing period covered
* **Sites** — which building(s) the bill belongs to (a bill can list more than one)
* **Utility Provider** — who issued the bill (for example ConEd or PG\&E)
* **Total Charges** — the dollar amount, when cost tracking is on for the company

Click any row to open the bill preview sheet. Cmd/Ctrl-click (or use **View All Bills**) to open the full page in **Data Inventory**.

For example, if you connected a ConEdison account yesterday, you might log in today and see a row with Bill Date, Service Period for Jan 1–31, site “123 Main St,” Utility Provider “ConEdison,” and Total Charges when cost is enabled.

This table is particularly useful in the first few days after setting up new connections, when data is flowing in rapidly. It gives you confidence that things are working as expected without having to dig into Data Inventory.

## Tips for using the dashboard effectively

The dashboard is designed to be your daily starting point. Here are some habits that experienced Nectar users swear by:

* **Check it every morning.** Glance at stats and **Recent Bills**. For connection errors or flagged bills, open [Data Quality > Issues](/docs/platform/data-quality/issues).
* **Use it as a health check.** If your bill count is growing steadily over time, your connections are working. If it plateaus unexpectedly, check Completeness or Issues — something might need attention.
* **Bookmark it.** If you're checking utility data regularly, make Home your browser’s default page for Nectar. The URL is `https://dash.nectarclimate.com`.
* **Use it before client calls.** Switch to that client’s company, then check Recent Bills. For open issues, use Data Quality.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Why does my bill count seem low?">
    If you just set up your connections, give it a few days. Nectar's first data pull typically
    completes within a few days of setup. Also check **Data collection start month** under
    [**Settings > Company > Data Collection**](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/settings/company/data)
    — connection or account overrides can narrow history further.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What should I do first when I log in?">
    If you have no sites, finish site setup. If you have sites but no bills, create a connection or
    upload bills. Otherwise glance at stats and **Recent Bills**, then open **Data Quality >
    Issues** if you need a to-do list for connection or bill problems.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How often does the dashboard update?">
    Numbers and recent bills refresh when you load or refresh the page, with normal client caching
    (on the order of minutes). It is not a live stream with no caching.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why are some of my numbers zero?">
    Confirm the company switcher is on the company you expect. No sites shows a setup empty state
    instead of the full layout. Sites with no bills yet show zeros for bills, meters, and
    connections until collection finishes. If you've just gotten started, complete the setup steps in
    [Getting started](/docs/platform/getting-started).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I customize what I see on the dashboard?">
    Home layout is fixed: stats, Favorites, Quick Links, and Recent Bills. To build your own chart
    layouts, use [custom dashboards](/docs/platform/analytics/custom-dashboards) under **Analytics >
    Custom dashboards**. Favorites are saved filter views from analytics pages, not custom
    dashboards.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does the dashboard show data across all my companies?">
    No. Home shows the **selected company** only. Switch companies in the sidebar to see another
    client. Data Inventory and Analytics filters stay inside that company.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I share the dashboard with my team?">
    Teammates with access to the same company see the same Home for that company when they select it.
    Limit who can access a company under [**Settings > Company >
    Members**](https://dash.nectarclimate.com/settings/company/members) (including Site-only).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What's the difference between the dashboard and analytics?">
    Home is your quick daily overview — counts, favorites, shortcuts, and latest bills. **Analytics**
    is for deeper exploration: charts, trend lines, period comparisons, and breakdowns by commodity,
    site, or time range. Issues live under **Data Quality**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I manage many clients — does the dashboard show all of them?">
    No. Switch to each client’s company on Home. There is no organization-wide Home rollup across
    every company.
