# Liberty Utilities

> How to connect Liberty Utilities accounts to Nectar by adding Nectar as a Guest User.

## Recommended approach: Add Nectar as a Guest User

Liberty Utilities grants third-party access by adding a guest user to your account. You'll generate a dedicated Nectar email address in the connection wizard, then enter that email, along with Nectar's name, on Liberty Utilities' portal.

### Step 1 — Generate your Nectar forwarding email

In the connection wizard, select **Option 1: Managed MFA forwarding**. You'll be asked to enter your own email address, this is where Nectar will forward any MFA codes or notifications it receives, so you stay in the loop.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start the Liberty Utilities connection">
    From [**Data Input > Connections**](https://nectarclimate.com/docs/platform/data-input/connections), click **New connection** and select **Liberty Utilities**, or click **Reconnect** on a connection showing **MFA Token Expired**. When the wizard reaches the MFA step, choose **Option 1: Managed MFA forwarding**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your own email as the forwarding destination">
    Enter the email address where you'd like a copy of any forwarded messages to go. This is your address, not Nectar's.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the generated Nectar email">
    On the next screen, the wizard displays:

    * A **generated Nectar email address** (unique to this connection, e.g., **[nectar-forward-to-your-company@nectarclimate.com](mailto:nectar-forward-to-your-company@nectarclimate.com))**

    Keep this screen open, you'll paste these values into Liberty Utilities' portal in the next step.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Step 2 — Add Nectar as a Guest User in Liberty Utilities

<Steps>
  <Step title="Log in to your Liberty Utilities account">
    Go to [libertyutilities.com](https://www.libertyutilities.com) and sign in with your credentials.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Navigate to account access settings">
    Go to **Account** > **Guest User** > **Add a Guest User**
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Nectar as a Guest User">
    Click Add a Guest User and enter the values:

    * **Select Guest Role:** Payer Access or View Only Access
    * **Name:** *Nectar*
    * **Email:** *the generated Nectar email from Step 1, e.g.,* [**nectar-forward-to-your-company@nectarclimate.com**](mailto:nectar-forward-to-your-company@nectarclimate.com)*)*
    * **Select Account:** click the account you want to add Nectar to

    <Tip>
      Use the email directly from the wizard, don't substitute your own email or a generic Nectar address. The generated email is unique to your connection and is how Nectar links the Liberty Utilities access back to your account.
    </Tip>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the invitation">
    Liberty Utilities sends an invitation to the generated Nectar email. Nectar accepts it automatically and begins pulling billing and usage data. The connection status updates to **Connected**, and any future notifications Liberty Utilities sends are forwarded to the email you entered in Step 1.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## If you have multiple Liberty Utilities accounts

Each Liberty Utilities account (login) needs Nectar added as an authorized user separately. If you manage many Liberty Utilities accounts across your portfolio, contact [support@nectarclimate.com](mailto:support@nectarclimate.com), we can help coordinate bulk onboarding.

## Alternative: Email forwarding or Upload bills

If adding a guest user is not possible (for example, if you don't control the account settings), you can always configure email mfa forwarding or [upload PDF bills](/docs/platform/data-input/uploads) directly. The parsed data is identical to what automated collection produces.

### Set up email forwarding in your inbox

In the mailbox that receives Liberty Utilities verification codes, create a forwarding rule that sends messages from Liberty Utilities to the Nectar address from Step 2.

* **Sender / from:** the Liberty Utilities sender address your account uses (and any other Liberty Utilities sender addresses)
* **Forward to:** the Nectar address from Step 2
* **Keep a copy** in the original inbox if you still want to see the codes

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Solution |
| - | - |
| Still shows "MFA Required" after adding authorized user | It may take up to 24 hours for Liberty Utilities to process the invitation. Contact support if it persists. |
| "Pending" status after authorized user accepted | Nectar is pulling initial data. This can take 1–2 business days for the first pull. |
| Multiple accounts need separate setup | Each Liberty Utilities login requires its own authorized-user invitation. |
