The Energy Star integration connects Nectar to EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager (ESPM). You map each ESPM meter to one or more Nectar meters, then push calendarized monthly usage to those destination meters — or download an Excel workbook. Supported commodities are electricity, natural gas, and district steam.

Setup

Connect Portfolio Manager from Settings > Company > Integrations > Energy Star.
1

Create a connection code

Click Create connection code. Nectar generates a unique code for this company.
2

Connect and share in Portfolio Manager

In ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, connect your account to Nectar’s Energy Star data exchange account. When prompted, enter the company connection code. Then share the properties you want Nectar to manage.
3

Refresh inventory

Return to settings and click Refresh inventory. Nectar imports the shared accounts, properties, and meters.
4

Set the data push start month

Choose the first month Nectar is allowed to write. Nectar never deletes or modifies Energy Star records that begin before this month, and it also preserves remote records that overlap months it is not rewriting. Moving the date later does not remove data already pushed. You can set a different start month on an individual Energy Star meter.
5

Map meters

Open Settings > Company > Integrations > Energy Star > Meter mappings and assign Nectar meters to each ESPM destination meter. See Meter mappings.
EPA’s Web Services Connection and Sharing Guidance covers the Portfolio Manager sharing steps.

Meter mappings

Mapping is destination-centric: each Energy Star meter is the destination, and the Nectar meters you assign are the complete source set for that destination. Sites are used to display and filter properties — Nectar does not infer mappings from site membership. Open Settings > Company > Integrations > Energy Star > Meter mappings. Expand a property to see its Energy Star meters, then:
  • Add one Nectar meter at a time to a destination
  • Clear mapping to remove every Nectar meter from that destination
  • Disable an Energy Star meter you do not want to track — it is greyed out and excluded from mapping attention until you re-enable it
  • Set or reset a push start on a destination when that meter should start later or earlier than the company default
Connected sites on each property are derived from valid mappings and are display-only — they do not decide what is pushed. One Nectar meter can map to many Energy Star meters. District steam destinations accept only Nectar district steam meters. After you share new properties or meters in Portfolio Manager, click Refresh inventory so they appear in the mapping table.

Portfolio hub

Navigate to Data Export > Integrations > Energy Star. The hub is a single page (not tabs):
  • Page header — Archive, Settings, and Refresh inventory
  • Status card — Connection state and an Export button that opens the export dialog
  • Recent syncs & downloads — Latest pushes and Excel downloads. Click a row for the export detail sheet
  • Properties — Searchable table of imported Energy Star properties, with mapped-meter counts and status. Click a row to open the property detail page

Exporting

Click Export on the status card. Configure: Then choose:
  • Push to Energy Star — Writes calendarized monthly usage to mapped destination meters. Push replaces unprotected Energy Star records that intersect the selected range
  • Download Excel — Generates a workbook without writing to Portfolio Manager
Track progress in Recent syncs & downloads or Data Export > History.

Property detail page

Click a property on the hub to open its detail page. Use the filter bar to pick a commodity and month range. The page includes:
  • Mismatch alert — If site-level Energy Star usage for that commodity does not match mapped Nectar meters, the page warns you. Unmapped Energy Star meters for that commodity link to meter mappings; otherwise it suggests a resync
  • Building details and annual metrics — Address, property type, floor area, connected sites, and related Portfolio Manager metrics
  • Usage chart — Monthly Nectar vs Energy Star totals for the selected commodity. Months before a destination’s push start are muted; mixed destination start months show as partial
  • Meters table — Each Energy Star meter with mapping status and the Nectar meters assigned to it
  • Create Energy Star meter — Company administrators can add an unmapped destination in Portfolio Manager from this page
  • Scoped export — Push or download Excel for this property and the selected months, with an optional earlier cutoff for that job only
Inspect a meter to open a sheet with that destination’s monthly chart. Click a month bar to see the Nectar vs Energy Star summary and the contributing usage records for that month. See also: Glossary — ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, Glossary — Meter, Glossary — Usage data

FAQ

You map Nectar meters to Energy Star destination meters in settings. Nectar calendarizes usage from those source meters and writes one monthly row per destination meter. Mappings are not inferred from sites.
Push to Energy Star writes mapped monthly usage into Portfolio Manager. Download Excel generates a workbook for the same scope without writing to Energy Star.
Yes. From the hub Export dialog, leave Properties empty to include every available property, or select a subset. From a property page, scoped export covers that property only.
The property view compares Nectar against Energy Star for one commodity at a time. Pick the commodity and month range in the toolbar so charts and tables use the correct units.
Confirm you selected both a commodity and a complete month range, and that destination meters for that commodity are mapped. If filters look correct but data is still missing, confirm bills exist for that period in Data Inventory. Email support@nectarclimate.com with the property and month if the issue persists.
Nectar will not delete or modify Energy Star records that begin before the data push start month, or remote records that overlap months it is not rewriting. Those months are omitted from new pushes. Moving the start month later does not remove data Nectar previously pushed. Individual Energy Star meters can use a different start month.
Yes. A Nectar meter can map to many Energy Star destinations. Each destination still has its own complete source set.
