Navigate to Data Inventory > Meters to see all utility meters across your portfolio. A meter represents a physical metering device at a site that measures utility consumption. The same physical meter can have bills from different providers — a utility meter (delivery / LDC) and a supplier meter, or landlord vs retailer. That is a duplicate: usage must not be counted twice. Mark as duplicate drops the extra series from usage (cost still counts). Primary and fallback is the same treatment when grouping is enabled — we prefer the primary and fill missing days from the other meter. We do not add both bills for overlapping days.
Grouping on the site Meters tab is an advanced feature. Email support@nectarclimate.com if you need it enabled.

Table columns

The meters table displays the following columns by default: Primary ID is available from Columns — it is the resolved utility identifier, not the list title. See How the Primary ID is determined. You can customize visible columns by clicking the Columns button above the table.

Filtering

Use the filter bar to narrow results by:
  • Site — Show meters for one or more sites
  • Utility type — Filter by commodity type
  • Tags — Filter by meter tags configured in Settings > Company > Data
  • Street, Zipcode, Country — Find meters by location. These search the meter’s own address and the address of the site it belongs to. See Location filters for how related-record search and the Contains/Is match modes work.
Filters can be combined and appear as removable chips.

Opening a meter

Click any row to open a slide-out Meter Sheet with a quick preview of the meter’s key details, including its Display ID, site, utility type, and tracking status. From the sheet, click Open full page to navigate to the meter detail page.

Row selection and bulk actions

Select one or more meters using the checkboxes in the table. The selection persists across pages, so you can build up a set across filtered views before acting. When rows are selected, the toolbar shows bulk actions:
Reassigning meters across accounts is not currently available as a self-serve bulk action. If you need to move meters from a leftover standalone account onto an online account, email support@nectarclimate.com — see Standalone accounts and online connections for what to provide.

Tracking

Meter tracking controls whether a meter is included in reporting and rollups — analytics totals, completeness totals, and usage exports. It does not stop bills from matching to the meter. Untrack a meter whenever you want it out of totals, for any reason. To stop collecting bills for an entire account, use account tracking instead. When you change tracking on an account with Update meters on, meters under that account are marked tracked or not tracked to match. That changes whether they count in reporting; it does not stop bills from matching to those meters.

FAQ

Meters are created automatically when Nectar discovers new meter identifiers from bill data — whether collected via connections, uploads, or manual entry. You do not need to create meters manually.
A meter marked as Duplicate is left out of usage totals so the same physical device is not counted twice. Cost still counts. Typical cases: a utility meter and a supplier meter, landlord vs retailer, or an overlapping spreadsheet.Fallback is the advanced form of Duplicate: still the same overlapping device, but it fills days the primary missed instead of dropping out of usage entirely. Hover the Fallback status for that explanation.
A meter is typically associated with one account at a time. However, if a meter is transferred between accounts (e.g., when a utility provider changes account numbers), Nectar preserves the full usage history across both associations.
Coverage is a 24-month view of data completeness—green indicates months with expected data, red indicates gaps. Usage is a 24-month view of relative monthly volume. Hover either sparkline for month-level detail.
Merge runs after a merge preview and only when the selected meters belong to the same account. You will see identifiers, coverage, and usage compared before confirming. Use merge for accidental twins (same account, same identifiers, same utility). If the meter number or billing account changed, link instead. For a utility meter and a supplier meter, or an overlapping spreadsheet vs connection, Mark as duplicate — or group as primary and fallback when grouping is enabled. Those two actions solve the same double-counting problem.
These operations serve different purposes:When to use each:
  • Use Link meters when the meter number or billing account changed and you want one continuous history without deleting rows. See Meter groups.
  • Use Merge meters when two rows should never have been separate — same account, same identifiers, same utility.
  • Use Mark as duplicate when two meters from different providers (or an overlapping spreadsheet) cover the same device. Primary and fallback is the same treatment with gap-filling when grouping is enabled.
  • Use Mark as not tracked when you want a meter out of reporting and rollups, for any reason, without changing how bills match or deleting history.
Yes. Select one or more rows and use Change utility type in the bulk actions bar. Confirm the commodity you need—this is useful when a meter was miscategorized during onboarding.
Use Cmd-click (or your browser’s equivalent) on the table row, or open the sheet and choose Open full page to launch the full meter detail view in a new tab.
Column visibility and order are controlled by the Columns control and may persist per browser. If you use a different device or clear site data, saved layouts can reset—reapply Columns as needed.
Open the meter, click Edit, and set Display ID. Leave it blank to show the Primary ID again. Display IDs are labels only — they do not change how bills match to the meter. See Display ID.
The Primary ID is the single utility identifier Nectar chooses for each meter. Because a meter can have many identifiers (account number, meter number, POD, etc.), Nectar resolves which one to show using a priority system — first checking your account’s preferred identifier type, then falling back to a standard ordering. Hover over the Primary ID to see all identifiers in a tooltip. The Display ID column is a separate label you can set; when Display ID is blank, lists show the Primary ID. See How the Primary ID is determined for the full resolution logic.
Set the Primary identifier field on the meter’s account. For example, if you want Account numbers to appear instead of Meter numbers, edit the account and set Primary identifier to “Account”. All meters under that account will then show their Account identifier as the Primary ID.
