Merging a standalone account onto an online account is performed by Nectar support on request.
Several cleanup steps around it are self-serve (see below).
When you don’t need to consolidate
Going forward:- Forward bills to the company inbox or upload them. Nectar matches them to existing accounts, including online ones.
- Prefer an online connection when portal access is available. Use the inbox for utilities without a portal, or for history the portal no longer shows.
- After an online connection is collecting cleanly, turn off auto-forward for that utility so the same statement isn’t ingested twice.
When two accounts represent the same utility account
You’ll see:- Duplicate bills on Data quality issues every billing cycle.
- A split history — older months on a standalone account, recent months on the online account.
- Two rows on Data Inventory > Accounts with Connection type Standalone and Online.
What you can do yourself
- Stop expecting new bills on the standalone side. Open Data Inventory > Accounts, filter to Standalone, select the rows, and use Mark as not tracked. Existing history stays in place.
- Delete duplicate bills you no longer need. On Data Inventory > Bills, filter to the standalone account (and optionally a date range), select the duplicates, and use Delete bills. Confirmation is required and cannot be undone — delete the extra copies, not the bills you want to keep.
- Link meters that are the same device after an identifier or billing-account change (older months on the standalone account, recent months on the online account, no overlap). On Data Inventory > Meters, select the rows and use Link meters. Same site and utility type required; accounts may differ. See Meter groups.
- Merge duplicate meters only when two rows on the same account are accidental twins. On Data Inventory > Meters, select meters that share an account and utility type, then Merge meters.
- If standalone and online meters overlap the same months, Mark as duplicate — or group them as primary and fallback when grouping is enabled. Do not link or merge overlapping series.
- Export a snapshot with Export accounts and Export meters to attach to a support request.
What to ask support
Email support@nectarclimate.com when you need history moved onto the online account and the leftover standalone row removed. Include:
If you’d rather not look up IDs, the company name and utility provider are enough.
Support moves gap-filling bills and meters onto the matching online account, then removes or leaves standalone-only accounts per your instruction. Original PDFs stay available from each bill’s detail page.
What you can’t do yourself today:
- Bulk-reassign bills from one account to another.
- Move meters between accounts.
- Delete an account row entirely.
If portal access goes away
Deactivate the online connection instead of deleting it — deactivation keeps history and you can reconnect later. Forward new statements to the company inbox; they match the existing accounts when Nectar can identify them.Tips for avoiding duplicates
- Set up online connections first when portal access is already in hand.
- Use invitations so the account holder enters portal credentials themselves.
- Disable auto-forwards as soon as the matching online connection is Connected.
FAQ
Will I lose bills if support merges accounts?
Will I lose bills if support merges accounts?
No. Support copies gap-filling standalone-side bills onto the online account before removing
the leftover row. Original bill PDFs stay accessible.
What about standalone accounts that have no portal counterpart?
What about standalone accounts that have no portal counterpart?
Some utilities never expose certain billing accounts online — for example unmetered signage billed
at a flat rate. Support will flag these and ask whether to keep them as standalone, try to add
them to the portal, or delete them. There is no automatic deletion of an account with no online match.
Can I merge accounts myself?
Can I merge accounts myself?
Not yet. Until a self-serve merge ships, email support@nectarclimate.com.
You can still mark standalone accounts as not tracked and delete duplicate bills yourself.
Does this affect data already exported to other systems?
Does this affect data already exported to other systems?
Exports already delivered to destinations like ENERGY STAR, Watershed, or Sphera aren’t rewritten.
Future exports use the surviving meters, so downstream systems see one continuous series. See
Data export.
