Interval Data & Smart Meters

GUC currently uses Automated Meter Reading (AMR, in service since 2004) with monthly drive-by collection, so no true 15/30-minute interval data is available today. GUC's board authorized a $41.7M Sensus FlexNet AMI program (March 2026 resolution) deploying ~141,000 meters over five years (2026-2031), which will add two-way communication and a consumer-facing real-time usage portal. Interval data access is expected post-2027 as deployment progresses.

GUC's nonresidential rates are demand-tiered. The defining feature for large C&I customers is the EG-4 coincident-peak (CP) structure: the demand charge ($23.90/CP kW) applies only to the customer's load during the single NCEMPA system peak interval each month. This makes peak-hour curtailment far more valuable than at flat-demand utilities, since shaving load during the one CP event directly cuts the demand bill. Energy at 3.082 cents/kWh on EG-4 is low because demand and wholesale costs are unbundled into the CP and PPA components.
