Termina Alternative | Nectar
Termina is a validated bill, interval, and tariff system of record with deep ANZ and UK market registry integration. Nectar covers more commodities and adds a full facility and ESG product above the data.

Termina is a Melbourne-based utility data company operating a validated bill, interval, and tariff system of record across more than 9,000 commercial sites in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and the US. It also runs an AI OCR bill-extraction API that returns thirty-plus structured fields from any retailer’s PDF, with a free tier of fifty API credits.
Its real differentiator is market-registry depth. Termina reconciles against NEM12, half-hourly data, MSATS, and ECOES: the settlement and registry infrastructure of the Australian and UK electricity markets. That is specialized work, it is hard to replicate, and it is not something Nectar natively supports. For a buyer whose portfolio sits in those markets and who needs registry-grade reconciliation, Termina is doing something we do not.
Nectar’s advantages sit either side of that. Below, broader commodity coverage: water, steam, fuel, and waste alongside electricity and gas. Above, a complete product for facility and ESG managers rather than a data feed: audit trail, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager sync, anomaly detection, completeness tracking, and rate optimization, on top of coverage of more than 7,000 providers globally.
Challenge
Electricity-focused data does not cover the full Scope 1 and 2 picture.
Solution
Nectar parses water, waste, steam, fuel, and solar alongside electricity and gas from a single collection pipeline.
Challenge
A data feed still requires you to build the application above it.
Solution
Nectar ships the facility and sustainability product (completeness views, anomaly detection, benchmarking exports) as well as the API.
Challenge
Benchmarking programs need a direct ENERGY STAR path.
Solution
Nectar syncs to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and exports to 20+ carbon, ESG, and ERP integrations without an integration project.
Registry reconciliation is a genuine moat
In the Australian National Electricity Market, the authoritative record of what a meter did is the NEM12 file and the MSATS registry, not the retailer’s invoice. The same logic applies to ECOES and half-hourly data in the UK. A platform that reconciles bills against those registries can catch a class of error (wrong meter assignment, misallocated site data, retailer estimation) that bill parsing alone will not see.
Termina has built exactly that, and if your portfolio is concentrated in ANZ or the UK and registry-level accuracy is your requirement, this is a real capability gap on our side rather than a positioning difference we can talk around.
Nectar’s reconciliation works from a different direction: comparing bills against interval reads, prior periods, and expected tariff structures to detect anomalies. That covers a wide range of billing errors globally, but it is not registry reconciliation and we would not present it as equivalent.
Buying a feed versus buying an outcome
Termina’s self-serve API with a public free tier is a strong developer experience, and for an engineering team that wants to evaluate quickly and build its own workflow it lowers the barrier considerably. Nectar sells an API too, and it serves the same buyer, but our product also includes the application layer for teams that are not going to build one.
That matters because in most C&I organizations the person with the utility data problem is a facility or sustainability manager, not an engineer. Handing them an API does not solve their problem. The completeness view, the anomaly queue, and the one-click exports are what turn validated data into a workflow they can actually run.
Where Nectar fits
Choose Termina if your portfolio is concentrated in Australia, New Zealand, or the UK and you need reconciliation against NEM12, MSATS, or ECOES registry data, or if a self-serve developer API with a free tier is how you want to evaluate. Choose Nectar if you need multi-commodity coverage, global provider reach, and a working product for facility and sustainability teams above the data layer.
Frequently asked questions
Does Nectar reconcile against NEM12 or MSATS?
No. Termina’s registry reconciliation across ANZ and UK market infrastructure is outside what Nectar supports today. If that is a hard requirement for your portfolio, they are the better technical fit and we would say so.
Does Nectar offer a free tier or self-serve API trial?
Not a public free tier. API access is arranged as part of an engagement, which suits organizations sourcing a production data feed more than engineers evaluating on a weekend. Termina’s free credits are a real advantage for fast evaluation.
Which commodities does Nectar cover that Termina does not emphasize?
Water, waste, steam, and fuel alongside electricity and gas. For organizations whose Scope 1 and 2 reporting spans more than electricity, collecting those from one pipeline avoids stitching several sources together.
We operate in both ANZ and North America. Which do we choose?
It depends on where the accuracy requirement is sharpest. If ANZ registry reconciliation is the binding constraint, start there. If the North American portfolio is larger and the problem is coverage, parsing depth, and reporting workflow, Nectar covers both regions from one platform.
