Energy procurement
Energy is one of the largest and most volatile categories a procurement team buys. Nectar gives sourcing teams validated usage, demand, and interval data for every site, checks the contracted rate on every supplier bill, tracks renewals well before expiry, and sources electricity, natural gas, and renewable offers through licensed partners. Nectar is not a broker or supplier.

Electricity and natural gas are bought differently from almost every other indirect category. Prices move daily, each bill is split between a supplier and a regulated utility, and the right contract depends on how each site actually uses energy: when it peaks, how much it runs overnight and on weekends, and how that profile shifts by season. Suppliers price that uncertainty into every offer, so the quality of the usage data in a pricing request affects the price you are quoted.
Most procurement teams assemble that data by hand, from utility portals, supplier invoices, and spreadsheets kept by site teams. Nectar keeps it current automatically. Every utility and supplier bill is collected from 7,000+ providers and parsed at the line-item level at 99.2% accuracy, supply and delivery charges are separated, and interval data is collected where the utility provides it. The same data then checks every invoice against the contract you signed.
Challenge
Supplier pricing requests wait weeks for usage data from every site.
Solution
Nectar keeps usage, demand, rate schedule, and account history current for every meter, with 15-minute or hourly interval data where the utility provides it, so a complete load profile is ready when the market is.
Challenge
Contracted supply rates are rarely checked against supplier invoices.
Solution
The contracted rate is validated on every supplier bill. Where a site receives both a supplier bill and a utility delivery bill, the two meters are grouped so usage is counted once and supply and delivery costs stay separate.
Challenge
Contracts roll onto holdover rates because no one tracked the end date.
Solution
Renewals are tracked with notice at least 180 days before expiry, alongside current market offers and an updated load profile, so there is time to run a competitive process.
Deregulated electricity and natural gas
In deregulated markets, the supply portion of the bill is negotiable. Nectar benchmarks your current contracts against market offers and your actual usage profile, then sources competing fixed and index-based offers for electricity and natural gas through licensed procurement partners.
Any supplier compensation is disclosed in writing before you sign, and each contract is directly between you and the supplier. Because Nectar is not a broker or supplier, the benchmark does not depend on which offer you choose.
Regulated utility tariffs
Where supply cannot be shopped, savings come from the tariff. Once 12 months of data are in, Nectar reviews every electric and natural gas account against the rate schedules it qualifies for, models each change with its assumptions, and submits and tracks the changes you approve.
A historical bill audit reviews up to 36 months of past bills for overcharges, misapplied riders, and missed tax exemptions, and every recovery is documented in a savings report with its source bills.
Renewable supply
Renewable supply options are sourced through the same licensed partners and compared with your current contract on the same terms. The consumption data behind each offer is the same data Nectar exports to ENERGY STAR and carbon accounting platforms, so procurement and sustainability teams work from one set of numbers.
Budgets and price risk
Nectar builds saved monthly budget and forecast scenarios for each site and commodity from actual bill data, then tracks actuals and variance as new bills arrive. Supply cost and delivery cost are reported separately in dashboards and exports, so finance can see how much of a variance came from the contract and how much from the utility.
Ask the AI agent which sites saw the largest change in supply cost this year or which have the highest supply cost per kWh, and every answer cites the bills behind it.
Why procurement teams choose Nectar

Data
Every utility and supplier bill parsed at the line-item level at 99.2% accuracy, with supply and delivery separated and interval data where available. Each value links back to its source bill, so the numbers in a pricing request or a savings report can be checked.
Automation
Bills are collected as soon as they are issued, the contracted rate is checked on every supplier invoice, and renewals, missing bills, and billing errors are flagged without anyone running a report.
Service
Licensed procurement partners run the sourcing, with compensation disclosed in writing before you sign. A named customer success manager coordinates renewal timing, rate changes, and utility follow-up with your team.
How Nectar works
1.Collect utility and supplier bills
Connect utility portals and supplier accounts, forward bill emails, or upload invoices. Nectar collects new bills automatically, with interval data where the utility provides it.
2.Validate supply and delivery charges
Each bill is parsed at the line-item level, supply and delivery charges are separated, and the contracted rate is checked on every supplier invoice.
3.Deliver a complete load profile
Usage, demand, interval data, rate schedules, and contract terms for every site, ready for a supplier pricing request or your own sourcing tools.
4.Act on renewals and offers
Renewals are flagged at least 180 days ahead, and licensed partners source competing offers, with any compensation disclosed before you sign.
5.Verify the new contract
Once a contract starts, the new rate is validated on every bill and savings are measured against the contract it replaced.
Before and after using Nectar
Pricing data ready when the market is
Before Nectar, usage data for a pricing request was gathered site by site over several weeks. After, a validated load profile for every site is always current.
→ Procurement advisoryEvery supplier invoice checked
Before Nectar, supplier invoices were paid as received. After, the contracted rate is checked on every bill and billing errors are flagged before payment.
→ Utility bill auditsRegulated sites on the right tariff
Before Nectar, sites that could not shop for supply were left on their default rate schedule. After, every account is reviewed against the schedules it qualifies for.
→ Rate optimizationBudgets that separate supply from delivery
Before Nectar, energy budgets were rolled forward from last year. After, forecasts come from actual bills, and variance is split between the supply contract and the utility.

Is Nectar an energy broker?
No. Nectar is not a broker or supplier. Electricity, natural gas, and renewable offers are sourced through licensed procurement partners, any supplier compensation is disclosed in writing before you sign, and each contract is directly between you and the supplier.
What data do suppliers need to price a commercial electricity contract?
Suppliers typically ask for at least 12 months of usage by account, peak demand, the utility rate class, the current contract end date, and interval data for larger sites. Nectar keeps each of these current for every meter, so a pricing request does not wait on site teams.
Can Nectar help sites in regulated utility markets?
Yes. Where supply cannot be shopped, Nectar reviews each account against the rate schedules it qualifies for and submits the changes you approve. A historical bill audit looks for overcharges and missed tax exemptions in up to 36 months of past bills.
How is a supply contract checked after it is signed?
The contracted rate is validated on every supplier bill. Where a site gets separate supplier and utility bills, the two meters are grouped so usage is counted once and supply and delivery costs stay separate.
