Invofox Alternative | Nectar
Invofox extracts structured data from utility bill PDFs you already hold. Nectar collects the bills first, from 7,000+ provider accounts, then parses them: the acquisition half Invofox does not cover.

Invofox is a Madrid-based document AI company. It runs a dedicated utility-bill vertical on a horizontal extraction platform, pulling consumption, reading types, time-of-use tariffs, full charge breakdowns, and multi-supply records from any provider’s bill format in under ten seconds. It markets to accounts payable, ESG, and KYC teams, publishes per-page pricing, and claims an accuracy SLA above 99%.
As a parsing engine it is well built and battle-tested, with more than 150 companies using the platform. If you already have utility bill PDFs sitting in a folder, a mailbox, or a document management system, Invofox will turn them into structured data quickly and at a price you can calculate in advance.
The gap is everything before parsing. Invofox does the extraction half; there is no connect-your-utility-account flow. Nectar runs the full pipeline: proactive collection from more than 7,000 utility providers via portal logins, EDI, and provider APIs, then parsing, then validation, completeness tracking, anomaly detection, and export. The PDFs arrive because we went and got them, not because someone forwarded them.
Challenge
Parsing only works on bills you already have.
Solution
Nectar collects bills directly from more than 7,000 provider accounts, so acquisition is automated rather than assumed.
Challenge
Nobody knows which bills never arrived in the first place.
Solution
Nectar's data completeness view shows expected versus collected periods at site, account, and meter level, so absence is visible.
Challenge
Extracted fields alone do not drive a reporting workflow.
Solution
Nectar adds anomaly detection, rate optimization, ENERGY STAR sync, and carbon platform exports on top of the parsed data.
Acquisition is the hard half
Bill parsing is a solved-enough problem that several vendors do it well, Invofox among them. Bill acquisition is not. It means maintaining working connections to thousands of utility portals that change their login flows without notice, handling multi-factor authentication, managing EDI feeds, and coping with providers that only deliver by post.
That is the majority of the engineering effort in a utility data platform and it is the part that decides whether your dataset is complete. A 99% accurate parser applied to 60% of your bills gives you 60% coverage, accurately parsed. The accuracy figure is real and the outcome is still a reporting problem.
If your bills genuinely all arrive already (a single provider, a clean EDI feed, a mature AP process that captures everything), then parsing is your only gap and Invofox addresses it directly and cheaply. That is a narrower situation than it first appears in a multi-site C&I portfolio.
Horizontal document AI versus a utility-specific pipeline
Invofox’s strength is that it is horizontal: the same platform handles invoices, receipts, and utility bills, which is efficient if you have several document types to process and one vendor relationship to manage. Its published per-page pricing follows from that model.
Nectar is deliberately narrow. Everything from the provider connection to the completeness view to the anomaly rules assumes a utility bill and encodes what that means: meters, service periods, demand versus consumption charges, riders, minimum-demand provisions, tax exemptions. That specificity is why we can detect a demand-charge error or a misapplied rate rather than simply reporting the fields we found.
For an AP team processing mixed documents, horizontal wins. For an energy or sustainability team whose problem is utility data specifically, the vertical pipeline does considerably more of the job.
Where Nectar fits
Choose Invofox if you already hold your utility bills, need fast structured extraction across mixed document types, and want published per-page pricing. Choose Nectar if the bills are the problem, if they arrive late, incompletely, or not at all, because collection from 7,000+ providers, not extraction, is what makes a utility dataset complete.
Frequently asked questions
Can Nectar parse bills we already have on file?
Yes. Historical bills can be uploaded and parsed alongside automated collection, which is the normal way to backfill history when onboarding. The difference is that going forward you do not have to supply them.
Invofox publishes a 99% accuracy SLA. What does Nectar publish?
99.2% across all parsed fields, with automatic error detection and human QA on any bill the model flags. The more useful comparison is not the parsing figure but end-to-end coverage: what percentage of your expected bills are collected, parsed, and validated without anyone intervening.
Does Nectar offer a per-page pricing model?
No. Nectar prices against portfolio scope because the product includes collection, validation, completeness tracking, and export, not just extraction. If you want to pay per page for parsing alone, Invofox’s model is a better match for that requirement.
Can we use Invofox for parsing and Nectar for everything else?
It is possible but usually redundant, since collection and parsing are tightly coupled in our pipeline: the parser knows which provider and account a bill came from because the collector fetched it. Splitting them loses that context.
