Terrascope Alternative | Nectar
Terrascope specializes in AI-assisted measurement for Scope 3 heavy agri-food and supply chains. Nectar covers the Scope 1 and 2 utility layer with provider-level collection generic ingestion cannot match.

Terrascope is a Singapore-headquartered enterprise carbon measurement and decarbonization platform, strongest in agri-food and complex Scope 3 supply chains. It claims AI-assisted ingestion and validation that shortens measurement cycles by up to 80% and fills data gaps to around 92% accuracy, and carries analyst validation including IDC MarketScape Leader recognition in 2025 and several Verdantix listings.
Its center of gravity is Scope 3. For a food manufacturer whose emissions are overwhelmingly agricultural and upstream, the hard problem is estimating supplier and land-use emissions across thousands of inputs, and Terrascope’s vertical expertise there is a genuine differentiator that Nectar has no equivalent for.
Scope 1 and 2 sit in a different category. Those emissions are not estimated from supply-chain models; they are measured from meters and bills. That is where generic AI ingestion tends to underperform, because a utility bill has structure (meters, service periods, demand versus consumption, riders, minimum-demand provisions) that a general document model reads as text rather than as meaning.
Challenge
Gap-filling to a confidence level is estimation, not measurement.
Solution
Nectar collects actual bills from more than 7,000 providers, so Scope 1 and 2 figures come from meters rather than from models.
Challenge
Generic ingestion misses utility-specific billing structure.
Solution
Nectar parses demand, supply, delivery, taxes, and fees as distinct components on every bill.
Challenge
Assurance providers ask for the source document.
Solution
Every value links to its bill image, so the evidence chain is available immediately rather than reconstructed.
Filling gaps versus not having them
A stated accuracy for gap-filled data is an honest way to describe an estimation method, and for Scope 3 categories where primary data genuinely does not exist, estimation is the only available approach. Nobody is going to meter a supplier’s farm.
Scope 1 and 2 are different, because primary data does exist. It is sitting in a utility account somewhere, and the reason it is missing is operational rather than fundamental. Filling that gap with an estimate when the meter read is obtainable is a choice, and it is a choice an assurance provider may question.
Nectar’s approach is to remove the gap rather than model it: automated collection from the provider, visible completeness so you know what is outstanding, and a distinction in the data between what was collected and what was estimated.
Complementary rather than competing
A food and beverage manufacturer typically needs both capabilities. Scope 3 dominates the emissions total and requires exactly the supply-chain modeling Terrascope does well. Scope 1 and 2 are smaller in tonnage but far more scrutinised, because they are the emissions you directly control and the ones an auditor can test against source records.
Running Terrascope for supply-chain measurement while Nectar guarantees the utility layer beneath is a coherent architecture, and it avoids asking either platform to do the thing it is weakest at.
It also matters operationally: manufacturing sites have complex multi-commodity profiles (electricity, gas, steam, process fuel, water, waste) that need parsing from one pipeline rather than assembling from several.
Where Nectar fits
Choose Terrascope if your emissions profile is dominated by agricultural or supply-chain Scope 3 and you need vertical expertise in modeling it. Choose Nectar if the Scope 1 and 2 layer is being estimated when it could be measured, or if multi-commodity industrial sites need line-item parsing that generic AI ingestion does not provide.
Frequently asked questions
Does Nectar handle Scope 3?
Not supply-chain Scope 3. Nectar covers the utility-derived portion of Scope 1 and 2, and exports it to whichever platform handles the full emissions picture. Agri-food supply-chain modeling is Terrascope’s strength and outside our scope.
What does 99.2% accuracy mean compared to 92% gap-filled accuracy?
They measure different things. Ours is parsing accuracy across fields extracted from bills we collected. Gap-filling accuracy describes how close an estimate is to an unknown true value. Collected data with a source document attached is a stronger position than an accurate estimate.
Does Nectar suit manufacturing sites specifically?
Yes. Multi-commodity coverage including steam and process fuel, interval data for demand analysis, and line-item parsing of industrial tariff structures are all core rather than peripheral.
Can both platforms run together?
Yes, and for most agri-food manufacturers that is the sensible arrangement. Terrascope for supply-chain measurement, Nectar exporting validated Scope 1 and 2 utility data into it.
