Energy and utility management for automotive
From assembly plants and parts suppliers to dealership groups, automotive companies run energy-intensive operations across many sites. Nectar collects and validates every utility bill, tracks energy per vehicle or part produced, and keeps demand charges, EV charging costs, and customer emissions requests under control.

Automotive plants combine some of the most energy-intensive processes in manufacturing, such as paint shops, curing ovens, and compressed air, with production schedules that change by model year and shift pattern. Parts suppliers carry the same costs on thinner margins, and increasingly answer emissions data requests from the manufacturers they supply.
Dealership groups face the opposite problem: many smaller sites, each with electric, gas, water, and waste accounts, a growing number of EV chargers, and acquisitions that add accounts faster than anyone can track them. Nectar handles plants and rooftops in one platform.
Challenge
EV chargers add demand charges that nobody budgeted for.
Solution
A fast charger can set a new monthly peak in minutes. Nectar tracks billed demand and on-peak usage for every account, sends demand-charge alerts by email or webhook, and models load shifting and on-site storage against interval data where available.
Challenge
Acquired dealerships bring utility accounts no one has mapped.
Solution
Nectar opens, transfers, and closes utility accounts in your name, matches unknown accounts by meter and service address, and keeps each site's account record current as stores change hands.
Challenge
Manufacturers and customers ask for emissions data on short notice.
Solution
Electricity, gas, and fuel data are collected continuously with an audit trail to each bill, so Scope 1 and 2 data for a customer questionnaire or a carbon accounting platform is ready when the request arrives.
Plants: energy per vehicle or part produced
Custom variables store monthly production for each plant, so energy intensity is reported per vehicle, part, or labor hour rather than per square foot. Process gas and electricity costs are visible by account and line item, and interval data shows when shifts and start-ups set the monthly demand peak.
Every electric and gas account is reviewed against available rate schedules once 12 months of data are in, and supply contracts in deregulated markets are benchmarked and tracked ahead of renewal, with offers sourced through licensed partners.

Dealership groups: every rooftop in one view
Sites are benchmarked on cost, usage, and energy intensity, so the stores that use the most energy per square foot stand out. Missing and late bills are tracked by site, anomalies are flagged when each bill arrives, and validated bills are paid on time through regulated payment partners or delivered to your accounting system as coded payables.
Waste and recycling accounts are managed alongside utilities, and hauler bills are audited against the hauler contract for extra pickups, contamination fees, and rate increases.

Service
Account opening and closing for new and sold sites, human review of flagged bills, and a named customer success manager who coordinates rate changes and procurement partners.
What changes for automotive teams
EV charging costs visible by site
Before Nectar, charger demand showed up as an unexplained jump in the bill. After, demand and on-peak usage are tracked and alerts go out before the next billing period.
→ Demand managementAcquisitions without account chaos
Before Nectar, new stores arrived with a box of bills and unknown account numbers. After, accounts are opened, transferred, or closed in your name and every record stays current.
→ Account open and closePlants and stores compared fairly
Before Nectar, sites were compared on total spend. After, plants are compared per unit produced and stores per square foot, with weather-normalized trends.
→ BenchmarksFrequently asked questions
Does Nectar track EV charging costs at dealerships?
Where chargers have their own utility account or meter, their usage, demand, and cost are tracked like any other meter. Where they share a meter with the building, interval data, where available, shows how charging affects the site's peak demand.
Can Nectar manage both plants and dealerships?
Yes. Plants and stores sit in the same platform, with production-based intensity for plants and square-foot benchmarks for stores. Each business unit can be set up as its own company under one organization, with access limited by role and site.
How does Nectar handle dealership acquisitions?
Submit a request at least 20 business days ahead and Nectar opens, transfers, or closes the accounts in your name. Large acquisitions and divestitures are scoped as separate projects so every account is mapped before the first bill arrives.

Carbon accounting requires accurate utility data collection
Carbon accounting has 3 steps: data collection, emissions calculation, and data reporting. Error rates of 10% in data collection compound into worse error in the CDP report. Garbage in, garbage out.
