iqbi Alternative | Nectar
iqbi specializes in collecting utility data from legacy and analog European meters. Nectar covers the same job globally across 7,000+ providers, with ENERGY STAR sync and a developer API.

iqbi is a Utrecht-based company founded in August 2022 that describes itself as utility data automation for European real estate. It collects electricity, water, gas, heating, and solar data from what it calls hard-to-reach sources (analog meters, legacy infrastructure, fragmented providers) and consolidates it into one validated data layer for CSRD and GRESB submissions.
Of everything in this market, iqbi is the closest functional match to Nectar’s own positioning. Its homepage copy runs remarkably close to ours: utility data others cannot reach, one consistent validated data layer, and a warning that CSRD and GRESB submissions built on estimated data get flagged. That is the same argument from the same angle, aimed at a European buyer.
The differences are scope and maturity of the collection engine. Nectar covers more than 7,000 providers globally rather than Europe alone, syncs to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, and exposes the dataset through an API for brokers and software companies. iqbi is deeper on one hard problem: legacy and analog European meter collection, with native multi-language and multi-grid-operator handling.
Challenge
European-only coverage leaves global portfolios partially served.
Solution
Nectar collects from more than 7,000 providers worldwide, so a portfolio spanning Europe, North America, and Asia runs on one platform rather than several.
Challenge
Estimated data gets flagged in GRESB and CSRD submissions.
Solution
Nectar distinguishes collected from estimated values in the completeness view and links every collected value to its source bill image.
Challenge
Benchmarking programs need a direct ENERGY STAR path.
Solution
Nectar syncs to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager directly, alongside exports to 20+ carbon, ESG, and ERP integrations.
The analog meter problem is real, and iqbi is good at it
A meaningful share of European building stock is still metered by equipment that predates any notion of an API, read manually on a schedule that suits the grid operator rather than the reporting calendar. Collecting from that estate is genuinely hard, under-served, and not solved by having more provider integrations.
iqbi has specialized there, and if a large fraction of your assets sit behind analog meters or legacy infrastructure in continental Europe, that specialty is worth more to you than global breadth. It is also worth noting that iqbi is larger than Nectar by headcount, so this is not a case of a smaller vendor with a narrower product.
Nectar’s answer to the same problem is different in kind: we work from the bill and the provider account rather than the meter, which covers a very large share of a typical portfolio automatically but does not reach an unconnected analog meter that never produces a bill line at the granularity you need.
What a global data layer buys you
For portfolios that cross regions, running one utility data platform rather than three has compounding benefits: one normalization model, one completeness view, one audit trail, one export path into your carbon or benchmarking tool. Regional platforms each solve their own market well and then hand you an integration problem.
Nectar’s coverage is global by design, with multi-currency and multi-unit handling and parsing that adapts to bill structure by market rather than assuming one. For an owner with European assets today and North American or Asian assets on the horizon, that removes a migration you would otherwise face later.
It also opens a use case iqbi does not serve: selling the data feed itself. Brokers, ESCOs, and climate software companies buy the Nectar API to build their own products on top of validated utility data, which is a different buyer from the asset owner filing a GRESB submission.
Where Nectar fits
Choose iqbi if your assets are concentrated in continental Europe and your data problem is specifically legacy or analog meters that never produce usable billing records. Choose Nectar if your portfolio crosses regions, you need ENERGY STAR sync and multi-commodity depth, or you want the validated utility data feed through an API rather than an application.
Frequently asked questions
Does Nectar reach analog and legacy European meters?
Nectar collects from utility provider accounts and bills, which covers most European assets automatically. Where a meter is genuinely disconnected and produces no accessible billing record, iqbi’s manual and legacy capture specialty goes further than we do. If most of your estate looks like that, they are the better fit.
How does Nectar support GRESB submissions?
By making the inputs defensible. The completeness view shows coverage by period and asset, estimated values are distinguished from collected ones, and every collected value links to its source bill, which is what stops a submission being flagged for estimation.
Is Nectar available for European portfolios specifically?
Yes. European providers are part of global coverage, with native currency and unit handling preserved through parsing and normalization applied at the reporting layer rather than at ingestion.
We want the data in our own system, not a dashboard.
Nectar exposes the full dataset through an API, which is a core use case for brokers, ESCOs, and software companies. iqbi is built around delivering a validated data layer to asset owners rather than as a developer-facing feed.
