Utility Account Open and Close
New, moved, and closed sites mean utility accounts to open, transfer, and close. Nectar opens and closes accounts in your name, requests deposit waivers and refunds, confirms final bills, and keeps every account record current, including paper bills that still arrive by mail.

A new store, a closed clinic, or a sold warehouse is a list of utility accounts that have to be opened, transferred, or closed in the utility’s process, under the legal entity that will be billed. Deposit rules, final-read windows, and the documents each utility asks for are different in every territory. When that work is a shared inbox, sites run for weeks with no account on record, and closed sites keep generating bills.
Nectar opens and closes accounts in your name. Submit a request at least 20 business days ahead with the details the utility requires. Acquisitions and divestitures are scoped as their own projects, because the account list and the entities change together. Routine openings and closings stay on the same request path, with the final bill and any deposit tracked until the utility has actually settled them.
Challenge
Opening and closing service at each site takes weeks of calls.
Solution
Submit a request at least 20 business days ahead, and Nectar opens or closes the account in your name with the details the utility requires. Acquisitions and divestitures are scoped as separate projects.
Challenge
Deposits and final bills are lost when sites close.
Solution
Nectar requests deposit waivers or refunds, confirms the final bill reflects the closing date, tracks any credit due, and then marks the account inactive.
Challenge
Account records fall out of date as utilities change numbers and rates.
Solution
Account number, meter, provider, and rate schedule changes on bills are linked to the account history, unknown accounts are matched by meter and service address, and mailed bills are scanned and processed with electronic billing requested where offered.
Openings and closings with a final bill
For a closing, Nectar requests deposit waivers or refunds, confirms the final bill uses the closing date, tracks any credit due, and then marks the account inactive. A deposit that the utility still holds is a tracked balance, not a line someone remembers at year end.
For an opening, the new account is created with the meter, service address, and entity that should be billed. The first bills are watched so the site is in the portfolio when the data is needed, not after a month of estimates.
Account records that follow the bill
Account number, meter, provider, and rate schedule changes that show up on a bill are linked to the account history. Unknown accounts are matched by meter and service address, so a utility that reissued a number does not create a second site.
Bills that still arrive on paper are scanned and processed, and electronic billing is requested where the utility offers it. The scanned bill is the source document, the same as a PDF pulled from a portal.
