Utility bills for bank and insurer branch networks
A branch network is thousands of small utility accounts that still have to be complete, paid, and traceable. Nectar collects every bill, holds the ones with errors, and keeps Scope 1 and 2 data ready for disclosure.

Banks, insurers, and asset managers do not think of themselves as energy companies, but a national branch and office network is a utility portfolio. Accounts turn over as branches open and close, bills are small enough to skip review, and disclosure still asks for a complete, traceable number at year end.
Nectar is built for that combination: automated collection, a check on every bill before it is paid, an audit trail from each reported figure to its source, and exports to the carbon platform your disclosure runs on.
Challenge
Branch bills are paid without anyone checking them.
Solution
Every bill is validated against its history and the applicable tariff. Bills with errors are held rather than paid, and US accounts can be paid through regulated payment partners under your approval rules.
Challenge
The data for disclosure is assembled in a rush.
Solution
Completeness is tracked by meter and month during the year, not after the deadline. Consumption exports to your carbon accounting platform with a link to each source bill.
Challenge
Branch openings and closures leave stray accounts.
Solution
Account opening and closing is handled as sites change, and missing bills are tracked as tasks so a closed branch does not keep billing unnoticed.
Controls that match the rest of the finance stack
Approval rules route bills by site, amount, or GL code. Each paid bill is coded to your chart of accounts, and the payment ledger and reconciliation stay with the close.
Every value links to the bill image it came from. Parsing accuracy is 99.2% across fields, and flagged bills get human review. Utility portal credentials are encrypted.

Disclosure-ready Scope 1 and 2 data
Electricity, natural gas, steam, and other fuels are collected for offices and branches and kept current through the year. Water and waste are included where those accounts exist. Nectar does not model supply-chain Scope 3, and it does not file the disclosure.
Customers who need data to stay in the EU can be hosted there. Totals across countries are reported in one display currency. The export your carbon platform receives is the same data finance already validated.

What changes for banking teams
Bills checked before they are paid
Before Nectar, branch bills were paid as received. After, each one is validated, and bills with errors are held.
→ Bill payA trail from the report to the bill
Before Nectar, a disclosure figure was a spreadsheet cell. After, it links to the bill image it came from.
→ Audit trailCompleteness before the deadline
Before Nectar, missing months appeared during reporting. After, gaps are tracked as tasks through the year.
→ Data completenessFrequently asked questions
Does Nectar file our climate disclosure?
No. Nectar exports audit-ready Scope 1 and 2 utility data, plus water and waste where those accounts exist, to the carbon accounting platform that prepares the filing.
Can utility data stay in the EU?
Yes. EU-hosted customers keep data and files in the EU. Portfolio totals across countries can still be reported in one display currency.
How are branch bills approved?
Approval rules route bills by site, amount, or GL code. Routine bills can clear automatically, and larger ones go to an approver, with reminders as due dates approach.

Carbon accounting requires accurate utility data collection
Carbon accounting has 3 steps: data collection, emissions calculation, and data reporting. Error rates of 10% in data collection compound into worse error in the CDP report. Garbage in, garbage out.
