Utility data for warehouses and cold storage
A dry warehouse and a freezer building should not be judged on the same square foot. Nectar collects every utility account, compares buildings on the intensity measure you choose, and opens the accounts when a new building comes online.
Warehouse operators add buildings faster than finance teams add utility accounts. A new site often lands in a utility territory the company has not dealt with, with electric, gas, and sometimes water and waste accounts that nobody owns for the first few months. A freezer or cooler on that site has a demand shape a dry building does not, so comparing them per square foot hides the expensive one.
Nectar keeps those buildings on one validated bill set. Energy and finance see cost, demand, and missing months without logging in to each utility, and cold and dry buildings are compared on throughput or pallet positions when square footage is the wrong denominator.
Challenge
A new building operates for months before its bills reach corporate.
Solution
Account opening and closing moves with the building. Missing and late bills are tracked as tasks, so a site does not sit outside the data until someone notices.
Challenge
Freezer buildings disappear into a square-foot average.
Solution
Custom variables store throughput, pallet positions, or another denominator you define. Cost and energy intensity use that measure, and the outlier buildings stand out.
Challenge
Refrigeration demand is only visible on the next bill.
Solution
Where the utility provides interval data, it is reconciled with billed demand. Demand-charge alerts go out as each bill is processed.
Cold buildings and dry buildings, scored apart
Electricity, natural gas, water, and waste accounts are collected from 7,000+ utilities and parsed at the line-item level. Demand, energy, taxes, and fees are separated, so a high bill can be traced to usage, a peak, or a rate.
US bills can be paid through regulated payment partners, or delivered to your accounting system as coded payables. Bills with errors are held rather than paid.

Accounts that open when the building does
A network of buildings crosses utility territories. Nectar sets up the new accounts, watches for the first bills, and closes accounts when a building is exited, so the portfolio list matches the buildings you actually run.
Once 12 months of data are in, electric and gas accounts are reviewed against the rate schedules they qualify for. Approved changes are submitted and tracked.
Why warehouse teams choose Nectar

Data
Every building bill parsed at 99.2% accuracy, with cold and dry sites compared on the intensity measure you choose.
Automation
Bills collected as buildings open, gaps tracked as tasks, and validated bills paid or delivered to AP.
Service
Account opening and closing for new buildings, human review of flagged bills, and a named customer success manager.
What changes for warehouse teams
New buildings arrive with their bills
Before Nectar, a building could run for months before corporate had its utility data. After, accounts open with the site and missing bills are tracked.
→ Account open and closeFreezers are not averaged away
Before Nectar, every building was judged per square foot. After, intensity can use throughput or pallet positions.
→ BenchmarksPeaks show up in the same month
Before Nectar, a refrigeration peak was a surprise on the bill. After, interval data and a demand alert point at the hours that set it.
→ Demand managementFrequently asked questions
Does this include truck charging at the dock?
Charging that is on the building meter shows up in that building’s bill. Yards and depots with their own electric service are covered on the fleet depots page, not mixed into the warehouse comparison.
Can we pay warehouse utility bills through Nectar?
Yes, for US utility accounts, through regulated payment partners. Bills that contain errors are held rather than paid. Elsewhere, validated bills can be delivered to your AP system as coded payables.
Does Nectar install meters in our buildings?
No. Nectar uses the bills and interval data utilities already provide. It does not sell metering hardware or building controls.

Carbon accounting requires accurate utility data collection
Carbon accounting has 3 steps: data collection, emissions calculation, and data reporting. Error rates of 10% in data collection compound into worse error in the CDP report. Garbage in, garbage out.
